NYP creates Gen AI solution from Google’s AI Trailblazer initiative
NYP’s prototype, Course Autobot, is the only educational institution among 84 organisations featured in Google’s Explore AI Submit 2024.
Developed using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform and foundation models, Course Autobot is an automated course content creation system that capitalises on generative AI technology to support lecturers in planning their lessons more effectively and spending their time more wisely to support learners in their academic pursuits.
Based on module/course synopsis and desired learning outcomes, the Course AutoBot prototype can offer curated reference materials for academic staff preparing their teaching slides, e-learning content, assessment questions, and other teaching materials.
Led by Mr Mah Kheng Kok (Course Manager of Diploma in Applied Analytics & AI) and his team, the bot saw success after multiple iterations, tests, technical reviews, and presentations to a panel. They were evaluated based on efficiency, usability, reliability, functionality, and propensity for real-world application.
Our Director, Ms Tan Soon Keow, and our student, Ruri Flora Newman, presented Course AutoBot to Minister Josephine Teo at the Google Explore AI Summit on 29 Jan 2024. The Edge Singapore also covered this showcase in their article.
NYP is proud to be part of Google Cloud’s commitment to encourage generative AI development in Singapore. Our Director, Ms Tan Soon Keow, shared, “Embracing AI has always been in Nanyang Polytechnic's plan. Our team at NYP School of Information Technology is glad to seize this opportunity for innovation with NYP Course AutoBot, leveraging GenAI and harnessing Google's LLM to automate course content creation. Embarking on this project has been an enriching journey for our staff and students, and embodies NYP's commitment to innovation, quality and collaboration.”
NYP SIT is also the first institute of higher learning in Singapore to incorporate industry training programs from Google Cloud into its core curriculum for over 1,000 full-time diploma students. This will support the government’s goal of tripling the number of local AI practitioners to 15,000 over the next three to five years, and enhance AI adoption across workforces to address real-world challenges.
