We want to empower a new generation of changemakers who are committed to sustainability and equipped with the skills to drive positive change.

Igniting interest in students

By integrating sustainability topics into our competency-based curriculum, we enable our students to understand the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and economic factors, all while honing their critical thinking skills.

 

Besides core curriculum and electives, about 1 in 2 final year projects will be sustainability projects, or minimally include sustainability elements in the project. This gives our Year Three students who opt to do final year projects greater opportunities to delve deep into sustainability topics and work with industry partners for solutioning. 

 

NYP graduates will be well-prepared to pursue careers in the expanding sustainability sector, serving as flagbearers for positive change.

Enabling NYP employees

We encourage our employees to enhance their skills through continuous learning, including sustainability-related knowledge.

  • All NYP staff members can participate in formal courses and industry immersion opportunities to deepen their expertise.
  • We support our lecturers and experts with resources and funding. With a dedicated $1m fund set aside for research purposes, they are empowered to tackle sustainability challenges and create impactful solutions.

NYP leverages its expertise, facilities, and networks to create impact with powerful solutions for industries and communities. 

ASI: Fuelling sustainability innovation

Established in October 2023, the Alliance for Sustainability Innovation (ASI) empowers Small & Medium-Sized Enterprises to embark on their sustainability journey and achieve their targets. The alliance also facilitates the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices within the industry.

NYP X: Our multiplier of change

NYP X is a plug-and-play collective of sustainability initiatives and activities which can be brought to different communities and neighbourhoods across Singapore. The first iteration was launched at the Teck Ghee precinct – in NYP’s immediate neighbourhood – with an Eco Fest event.

Campus Operations

We support our nation's green ambitions as outlined in the Singapore Green Plan, innovating design and technologies within public sector targets to enhance energy efficiency while aiming for net zero emissions.

 

To transform NYP into a smart and green campus, we are working on key areas such as:

  • Energy consumption: Boosting efficiency with technology like motion-sensor lighting and digital twins for real-time monitoring.
  • Water consumption: Implementing strategies such as water leak detection, eco-friendly dining options, and food digesters to manage waste effectively.
  • Health & Wellness: Promoting community well-being through dedicated wellness spaces and continuous air quality monitoring.

Leadership & Governance

NYP's leaders steer our sustainability efforts, making sure they match our goals and values.

 

At the helm is the Sustainability Advisory Committee, led by Chairman of our NYP Board of Governors. The committee is supported by industry experts, so that we can gain valuable inputs for our sustainability journey.

 

Internally, we also have the NYP Sustainability Steering Committee (STSC). It steers our efforts with our stakeholders to achieve our targets. 

 

We prioritise sustainability by ensuring our policies and procedures align with established guidelines. Initiatives at NYP include eliminating disposable cutlery at events, providing public transport directions to NYP, and implementing paperless registrations.

The fine art of feeding fish

NYP is tackling a critical challenge in aquaculture: reducing feed wastage. The device uses AI to analyse fish feeding patterns and automates feed dispensing, optimising both quantity and timing.

Empowering Teck Ghee residents with Adopt a Block

Through our Adopt a Block initiative, launched in June 2024, students are actively engaging with Teck Ghee residents from three blocks on upcycling and recycling efforts.

What's cooking: Sustainability food options

At our restaurant L'Rez, we explored low-waste menus and plant-based proteins. We also teamed up with Unilever Food Solutions to create innovative, sustainability-themed dishes.
