From Culinary Arts, Business to Law: Hilal's Journey, Empowered by NYP
Hilal Iman Bin Mohammad (Class of 2023) is pursuing a Law Degree under the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (LKY-STEP) at the National University of Singapore.
Driven by a relentless pursuit of progress and excellence, Hilal consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication in his endeavours.
Throughout his seven-year tertiary education, spanning culinary arts at SHATEC and business management at NYP, he maintained unwavering ambition. Besides balancing his academic pursuits and leading the Current Affairs and Debating Club (CADC) to win numerous competitions, Hilal also volunteered with local community organisations that support the elderly and migrant workers.
Upon graduation, he received the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (LKY-STEP) Award and is now a NUS Law student.
Topping his cohort and school with a near-perfect 3.99 GPA, the Dip. in Business Management received the Distinguished DBS Award and the Mapletree Gold Medal. His dedication to his communities also earned him the MENDAKI Pinnacle Award.
Upon graduation, he received the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (LKY-STEP) Award and is now a Law student at the National University of Singapore.
An achiever driven by determination, Hilal modestly attributes his stellar performance to his NYP experience. He shares, in his own words:
“Throughout my time at NYP, I learnt so much from my lecturers, who really go out of their way to guide us. The tutors shared their wealth of experience and practical knowledge and helped us understand how we could execute our analysis and resolutions for real-world customer service challenges.”
I especially enjoyed delving into psychological theories related to human behaviour and applying them to shape customer experiences. Importantly, this type of knowledge has also assisted me in navigating relationships with colleagues, superiors, and individuals in the broader social sphere!
The legal industry, much like numerous other sectors, fundamentally operates as a service industry. With NYP’s Diploma in Business Management, I am empowered with confidence and a distinct advantage in being able to connect deeply with diverse stakeholders.
More importantly, I also found my second family in my ever-supportive classmates – their selflessness, spirit of teamwork and camaraderie – these are lessons that will last me a lifetime.
