From NYP to NTU, Sport Passion to Sporting Profession
An avid badminton player with a knack for maths, Felicity Lim (Class of 2024) put in a lot of hard work in her studies and play. The undergraduate at Nanyang Technological University shares her story.
Growing up, I have never been the most confident person. My interests revolved around badminton, mathematics, and volunteering. Over time, I learnt not to be afraid of getting things wrong – while working with different personalities towards a common goal, and solving maths problems.
As I matured, I found myself drawn to the logical aspects of problem-solving and the process of analysing the reasons behind challenges and errors. This analytical mindset, combined with my passion for physical activity and wellness, led me to pursue the Diploma in Sport & Wellness Management (DSWM).

DSWM has equipped me with invaluable skills and knowledge that reinforced my passion for sports. I was able to experience every stage of event planning as well as work on my people skills. The atmosphere in DSWM is always very welcoming, and I felt very comfortable just being myself.
Through various leadership roles at NYP, I was able to develop my communication and leadership skills. While I still dread the idea of having to present in front of a crowd, my training and experiences helped gradually overcome my anxiety of speaking up and drawing attention to myself.
We also had so many opportunities to volunteer while building our events management skills. I learnt to see things from multiple perspectives, and that there is so much more to volunteering than just giving back to society. In fact, by interacting with many different personalities from various backgrounds, I think I gained a lot of interpersonal skills.
I feel that I've made significant progress in understanding myself and honing my strengths, enabling me to apply these values and skills effectively. With these experiences, I am confident that I will continue to expand my knowledge while pursuing my undergraduate studies in Sport Science and Management at NTU, and eventually build a successful career in the sporting industry.
