On 1 Nov 2024, our students gained more insights and were kept up-to-date about consumer habits and industry practices at the seminar “Retail Sustainability Through Circularity & Technology”. They were part of a 300-strong audience, who also saw an inspiring showcase on the future of retail, a Retail Seminar and a lively Retail Career Fair & Exhibition.

Zhang Ting Ting, CEO of the Singapore Fashion Council (SFC), delivered a powerful keynote on sustainability, and hosted a discussion with top industry leaders like UNIQLO, Alibaba Group, and Circular Unite. Together, the speakers and audience explored topics such as sustainable retail trends, carbon tracking innovation, upcycled fashion, and AI-driven waste reduction – highlighting how companies are embedding sustainability into their core operations.

Adding to the excitement, an interactive poll allowed the 300-strong audience to share their opinions, sparking lively discussions.

Six passionate students across the polytechnics and ITE also had the invaluable opportunity to share their perspectives in a panel discussion with the industry leaders, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the conversation.

NYP’s student representative, Chen Lee Ling Chloe, became more inspired and hopeful for the future of the retail industry after this dialogue with the industry leaders.

The year 2 DBM student specialising in E-Commerce & Retail Management and Marketing & Digital Communications shared:

“I was particularly inspired by SFC’s holistic approach to tackling sustainability challenges through Sustainability, Innovation & Technology, and Asian Craftsmanship. Their strategy of integrating consumer psychology into making sustainable choices more appealing resonated deeply with me.

It was heartening to witness the collective prioritisation of sustainable practices, a movement that gives me confidence in the retail space of tomorrow.”
