Ideal applicant

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Interest in robotics and mechatronics technologies, especially in pursuing a career as a robotics/mechatronics engineer;
  • Experience in robotics or mechatronics in a school environment (e.g., through a CCA, a community activity or a class leadership position) or external context (e.g., robotics competition participation or courses attended, or engineering-related career events/online learning attended), where you learned about various technologies, including coding, electronics or mechanical knowledge; and,
  • Leadership, teamwork and critical thinking skills to develop innovative and creative solutions in the robotics and mechatronics domains.

Shortlisted applicants will be assessed as follows:

Interview

If you are shortlisted, you will be invited for an interview to share more about your passion for the course with a panel of interviewers. You will be assessed on your interest, aptitude, as well as your achievements in both robotics/mechatronics and non-robotics/ mechatronics domains. The duration of the individual interview will be about 20 minutes.

Some questions which you may be asked during the interview include:

  • What do you know about the key domain areas of robotics and mechatronics technologies?
  • How did you realise that you wanted a career in robotics and mechatronics?
  • Have you tried building a robot/gadget? How was your experience?
  • What motivates you to consider a career in robotics and mechatronics
  • Have you taken part in any competition/CCA that is robotics or mechatronics-related?
Portfolio (Optional)

You should include in your portfolio, any evidence and/or activities (e.g., robotics competitions, attendance of relevant courses) that showcase your character and involvement in robotics and mechatronics related activities (e.g., leadership skills, coding skills, mechanical design skills).

Examples of what to include in your portfolio:

  • Testimonials
  • Certificates (e.g., academic, achievement and/or personal development)
  • Awards or participation in robotics competitions, at school and/or national level
  • Evidence of robotics/mechatronics projects, (e.g., coursework or CCA)
  • Relevant learning journeys or Applied Learning Module (ApLM, formerly known as Advanced Elective Modules [AEM])
  • Evidence of leadership activities or roles
  • Participation in CCAs

Notes:

  1. Candidates with colour vision deficiency may encounter difficulties meeting the course requirements and expectations.
