Best of Nation and Gold Award in Visual Merchandising

Victoria Cheong

Dip. in Experiential Product & Interior Design,

School of Design & Media

 

Victoria crafted an impressive display to promote a French skincare product made from sea minerals. She intricately created a 3D seahorse, mesmerising every visitor. A “Net Bag” on the seahorse's tail also highlights the impact of discarded nets on marine creatures that may be trapped, while promoting upcycling for sustainability. Her powerful message about protecting marine life and environmentally conscious practices truly wowed everyone!

 

As a testament to her work, WorldSkills International will showcase Victoria's display in the WorldSkills Museum in Shanghai.

Joanne Li

Joanna demonstrated remarkable versatility in her design work, tackling illustration, packaging, editorial, and advertising projects with skill. Her consistent performance was especially notable, as everyone adjusted to new challenges posed by the competition's reformatting. This adaptability showcased her talent and gave her a competitive edge.

Silver Award in 3D Digital Game Art

Goh Jia Hui

Jia Hui was tasked to design and build a futuristic food van with an octopus chef. She integrated her masterpiece into Unreal Engine, a real-time 3D creation tool, and implemented a driving system that let players race the van against a computer-controlled car!

Bronze Award in Cloud Computing

Phua Shi Qi

Dip. in Applied AI & AnalyticsSchool of Information Technology

 

Shi Qi was tasked with designing a robust infrastructure to manage high-demand workloads, similar to those seen during major ticketing events. She also engaged in capture-the-flag challenges that tested her troubleshooting and critical thinking skills, further enhancing her technical expertise and strategies for optimising system performance and resilience.

Team NYP also secured 4 Medallions of Excellence!

Medallions of Excellence are given to competitors who score 700 points or more, but are not awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal.

WorldSkills is a distinguished global competition that highlights the talents and capabilities of young professionals across a range of vocational and technical disciplines. Commonly referred to as the "Skills Olympics," this event fosters excellence in vocational education and training, motivating young individuals to pursue careers in skilled trades. In 2024, WorldSkills Lyon convened 1,400 competitors from over 70 countries and regions. During the course of four days, these exemplary individuals demonstrated their exceptional skills in 59 disciplines, reflecting their commitment and passion for their respective professions.
