My Finance Transformation Directorate internship at Accountant-General’s Department (AGD), spanning 24 weeks, has been a rewarding experience!
I learned a lot about Public Sector Finance and how technology and finance can work together to revolutionise corporate processes, particularly when using cloud systems like Workday.
I was most excited about working with this cloud system during my internship since it gave me a glimpse into the future of accounting. The accounting industry implements new technologies and I earned tech-ops competencies.
My team opened my eyes to new possibilities by creating Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to automate manual tasks and by putting new solutions in place, complementing and increasing the efficiency of processes that were already in place.
I also led a project with ten government agencies, which allowed me to demonstrate the value of effective communication since instructions had to be clearly delivered to everyone.
I believe that NYP's holistic curriculum adequately prepared me for the internship. Its comprehensive nature enabled me to get a thorough understanding of accounting concepts that I could apply to my work.
NYP also values soft skills like adaptability, effective decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving. These enabled me to better adapt and negotiate the many components of the internship.
Overall, I thoroughly loved the internship since I was able to use what I learned and obtained from NYP's curriculum in a real-world context.
