It involves the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies such as advanced wireless technology, embedded systems and cloud software.

The floormat logs the number of times it is stepped on and transmits the data to a cloud server. When strategically placed at various parts of the house such as the entrances to the bathroom or kitchen, the data captured can create an image of the user's movement patterns and habits. In addition, the mat can also be programmed to send alerts when specific patterns of movement are detected or missed. The data collected can be useful in diagnosing the user's condition – for example, an unusually high frequency of toilet visits could indicate that the user might have a medical condition.

Local electronics firm Apps-Connect was keen to bring this to market and an early version was expected to go out in 2019.
