Young Scientists’ Symposium
The Young Scientists’ Symposium, jointly organised by the Singapore Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SSBMB) and Science Centre Singapore, provided a platform for students from polytechnics to showcase their internship works or final year projects. Among the participants were 8 students from the Diploma in Applied Chemistry programme who engaged in oral or poster presentations.
Two students, Lutfil Hadi Rafli B Nizam and Yong E-Rong, were presented with the Certificate of Merit for their exceptional Poster Presentations. Lutfil presented his internship work conducted at ACM Biolabs, focusing on RNA drug development. His research involved a comprehensive evaluation of polymer-based drug delivery systems compared to traditional lipid-based counterparts. E-Rong's project, on the other hand, aimed to establish an in-house assay for detecting lysozyme activity in biological samples.
Another student, Loh Mei Zhen also shared insights into her Final Year Project, which focused on developing a vaccine to prevent viral infections in Seabass.
Overall, the symposium provided a valuable opportunity for students to showcase their research efforts and contribute to the advancement of science and technology. It fostered collaboration and inspired innovation among budding scientists, laying the foundation for future breakthroughs in the field.

Overseas Exchange Programme in Thailand
The Temasek Foundation Specialists’ Community Action and Leadership Exchange (TF SCALE) is a leadership exchange programme for students from polytechnics and technical and vocational education and training colleges (TVET) in ASEAN. In this programme, students engage in cross-cultural learning about regional economic and community issues, they also apply practical skills, technology and research in community social innovation projects. This year, the exchange programme proved to be an enriching journey for a cohort of 15 students from School of Applied Science and another 15 from Kasetsart University in Thailand.
Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL)
The HEAL student interest group has been serving the community by organising various activities. During this semestral break, they organised ‘Simple Cooking, Healthy Living’ event in collaboration with Cheng San CC Youth Network for senior citizens.
Journey to Indonesia
In April 2024, our year 3 students embarked on an adventure to unravel the secrets of innovation & enterprise (I&E), sustainability, and life skills within the bird nest industry at Tanjung Balai Karimun, Indonesia.
