EAE Tips: Electronic & Computer Engineering (C89)

NYP’s Diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering offers learners essential skills and knowledge vital to flourishing sectors like electronics, information technology, semiconductors, telecommunications, and Internet of Things (IoT). Graduates can anticipate careers in Deep-Tech fields such as artificial intelligence, IoT, data engineering, autonomous mobile robotics, 5G, and cloud computing.

Ideal applicant

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Interest in mathematics, science, computer systems and software coding;
  • Experience in a school environment (e.g., through a CCA, a community activity or an elective subject) where you learned about various computer technologies and electronics including coding or circuits and sensors, or in an external context (e.g., innovation competitions, hackathons, online learning sites or industry events);
  • Awareness of computer trends and emerging technologies, and aspirations to be part of technological advancement and product innovation;
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills to tackle real-world problems; and,
  • The ability to communicate ideas clearly and in a logical manner.

Shortlisted applicants will be assessed as follows:

Interview

If you are shortlisted, you will be invited for an interview to share more about your passion for the course and your accomplishments relevant to the course with a panel of interviewers. You will be assessed on your interest, aptitude, as well as communication and presentation skills. The duration of the individual interview will be about 15 minutes.

Some questions which you may be asked during the interview include:

  • What are the reasons for choosing this course?
  • Can you share what aspect of this course attracted you to apply for it?
  • Share a recent news article or YouTube video in the relevant field which is of interest to you.
  • What do you think about the impact a particular new technology/system/product could have on our daily lives?
  • What do you know about the operation of a particular new system/product?
  • Share some of the jobs related to electronics and computer engineering.
Portfolio (Optional)

You should include in your portfolio, any evidence and/or activities that showcase your involvement relevant to the course. 

 

Example of what to include in your portfolio:

  • Testimonials
  • Certificates (e.g., academic, achievement and/or personal development)
  • Evidence of participation in learning journey such as Applied Learning Module (ApLM, formerly known as Advanced Elective Modules [AEM]) and in learning relevant topics (e.g., computer systems, coding)
  • Awards or participation in relevant competitions and hackathons
