Who's on board with us

1

Over the past 40 years, Singapore has been able to raise its education level from one similar to that of many developing countries to match the best in the worldwide stage of education and re-skilling. In this aspect, Google Cloud is glad to partner with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in their latest innovative approach to teaching and learning through the Professional Competency Model (PCM). By focusing on an AI-first learning curriculum and training environment to be jointly developed, we believe that both NYP and Google Cloud will be well-placed to recharge the workforce of tomorrow and to allow our talents to find a strong footing in jobs available in Singapore and across the globe.

Our partnership with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) started in 2011 to nurture and develop talent in data analytics through education and training programmes for the industry. NYP to incorporate SAS tools and techniques into its curriculum and develop courses that would equip students with the skills needed to meet industry demands. We have run co-certifications for PET learners and within the school, there is the SAS academic specialisation in Predictive Analytics in Data Science. This partnership has had a lasting legacy, with NYP continuing to offer training and certification courses to students, professionals, and industry partners. The NYP-SAS Partnership has also become a hub for research and development, collaborating with industry partners to develop and test new analytics tools and techniques.  The impact of the SAS-NYP partnership has been significant. It has helped to address the skills gap in data analytics within the Finance, Government and Commercial sectors, providing students with the pathways needed to succeed in these fields. The partnership has also helped promote Singapore's position as an analytics and data-driven innovation hub.

As employer organisations continue to accelerate their digital transformation, the skills that they require of their workforce have also evolved. In addition to on-the-job reskilling, there is definitely an opportunity for educators to better prepare for new generations of workforce with futureproofed skills. One such example is the NYP-PCM, which Microsoft is excited to support with access to our student and educator learning resources, training and certification. By working with their faculty to integrate these into the Competency Units, we hope that the graduating cohorts will enter the workforce ready to contribute to their employers and economy.

Jolene Chong Jie Lin

I chose the Diploma in Applied AI & Analytics over JC via EAE because I was very sure I wanted to be in the field of technology. I have never looked back since.

The unique way in which this course is co-created with industry partners aligned well with my career aspirations and interests in the rapidly evolving field of AI and data analytics.

I am grateful for the many opportunities given to me by NYP. From the setting up of Ladies-in-Tech, an Interest Group, to developing an innovative AI Journal App in partnership with the Society Against Family Violence to provide support to youths at risk, my experience here has been fulfilling.

Without all these opportunities, I would not have been awarded the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) Girls in Tech award or graduated with the Lee Kuan Yew Award.

Wary of how I would adapt from ITE to the PCM way of learning, I was pleasantly surprised that this approach enabled me to easily gain knowledge and skills. A testament to this is when my project, SignVision, a real-time sign-language AI translator, won the Lee Hsien Loong Smart Nation Award in 2023 and the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) Outstanding IT Youth Achievement Award in 2024. These achievements further fueled my passion for AI and analytics and solidified my dedication to continuing to innovate and excel in this field.

As a proud alumnus of NYP's innovative PCM programme, I am committed to championing the ethos of innovation and excellence, driving positive change in the ever-evolving landscape of technology and business.

The competency-based curriculum provided me with the essential skills that are highly sought after in the industry. Through rigourous coursework and practical exercises, I gained proficiency in areas such as AI, big data management & analytics, and cloud computing. The curriculum has well prepared us to pursue industry certifications such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate.

During my internship, I was pleasantly surprised by how well-prepared I was to tackle real-world challenges. The adaptability instilled through PCM allowed me to quickly acclimate to the fast-paced environment and excel in my role. My supervisors and colleagues were impressed with my capabilities, which further reinforced the value of the education I received.
