Course objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, the participants will be able to:1) Identify personal beliefs and attitudes associated with suicide so that they can be comfortable in relating to clients with suicide risk2) Increase confidence and competence as they gain knowledge in managing immediate risk of suicide3) Apply the suicide risk assessment tool4) Demonstrate skills in suicide first aid
Course description
This short course will be of great benefit to social service professionals who work with clients at risk of suicide and need to provide front line support. It will provide an insight into the local suicide statistics and dispel myths on suicide. It helps participants to gain knowledge and skills to manage suicide risk through firstly identifying risk, assessing risk level and applying the appropriate interim interventions before referring to other key stakeholders. Through classroom training, group discussions and role plays, participants would be able to demonstrate these skills.
